Querkus News - December 2002

Hi there again - I bet you thought we were dead, not writing to you until mid month, but never fear -- NW Ontario could kill us, so all this hurry up and waiting in Winnipeg is equally survivable.

Let's see....

We're applying for all kinds of music showcases including South By Southwest (Austin, TX -- would THAT be a nice holiday!!), Canadian Music Week (Toronto), New Music West (Vancouver - hopefully they will get things figured out earlier this year), MUTEK (Montreal) and North By Northeast (Toronto). Hopefully we will get into at least one, and then we will build a tour around it.

The Querkus basement space communication device is nearly ready... we're improving on the one ET used to phone home.... it's made with a real computer and a real good soundcard -- we have come by 3 of the 4 computer programs we need (Wavelab, Recycle and Cubase SX), now we need Reason 2.0 and studio monitors, then we should be ready to communicate.

We have officially decided to acquire a drummer and possibly a bass player, just as long as we don't end up being a rock band. We may not play any more live shows until we finalize our live setup. If we can get good sequences to run off CDs that we burn from the computer, we may play some live shows like that until we can find some more people. I sure miss playing shows around Winnipeg -- we haven't played here since September!! We'll get our act together soon I promise, and we'll be back to taking the city on my storm as per usual.

The new website is essentially done, there are just a few thing to iron out. I'm counting on it for January. January seems to be a good month for Querkus. We also hope to release our new live CD in January, hopefully with some kind of live show or at least a party!

Oh and I should mention that I have gotten engaged -- I know its weird, but I think it is a good thing, I really do. Jaimz is a great guy and I am pretty lucky (great karma, and Jaimz helps me not leave my mittens on the bus) We will most likely get married in summer of 2004. I assure you that marriage will not squash out my creative urges (or his -- Jaimz makes industrial music and really cool movies -- I'll let you know when Carpet Cleaners is playing at Cinimatheque again), I see Querkus winning over the hearts of millions over the next few years (or so I hope it so!!).

Well, I guess that is it for news, I will write back again in January (or sooner if anything very exciting happens in the meantime.

xoxoxoxoxoxoxoxo
you are the best!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
