Querkus News - February 2006

Hello everyone, sorry I am kind of late in getting this sent out. Hopefully you have seen the posters and listing for our upcoming show and this will simply remind you that you were planning on spending this Saturday night with us. Here is a reminder of the show details:

Querkus w/ Fisher Kane and Slattern

Saturday, February 11 @ 10 pm

Ragpicker’s Annex (2nd floor, 216 Mc Dermot Ave)

$5 at the door.

It promises to me a lovely evening of ethereal chaos and other sounds. Both Fisher Kane and Slattern can be found on the wonderful world of myspace.com, which Edgar and I are both thoroughly addicted to. Ours is www.myspace.com/querkus, and we have links to both other acts from there. In case you haven’t checked out our page, we have some unreleased music there for your listening pleasure. One more thing about myspace… check out the David Lynch Foundation. They put together a special birthday CD for David Lynch, featuring Edgar beautiful track “Rubbing My Eyes”.

This Saturday, Querkus will be joined by the illustrious Jeff Konwalchuk on drums. Jeff sure is a busy guy and we are thrilled that he was able to play with us this night. If you were at Lynch Night (wow, Lynch Night, I’d love to talk about it but I don’t have the right words. But I loved it.), you saw Zublotnicks, another one of Jeff outstanding projects. And if you read the Uniter, there was an article about the grindcore band Jeff is now fronting as a vocalist, known as ‘CP’. Thanks Jeff for mentioning Querkus in your interview!!

In other news, Querkus is making serious recording plans. A full length studio album is being constructed this spring. We are going to try and write 2 or 3 more songs, and begin recording in March. So, here is your time to comment if you like… is there any songs that we have been playing live that you feel absolutely must be on the album? Anything you really don’t care for that we have been doing? Anything off The Fire Behind Us that you think needs a crack at the studio? I’m just curious.

Other projects right now include a 1930’s style swing film score that Edgar is writing and is to be recorded this Sunday. How’s that for a busy weekend. I love swing music, Benny Goodman is a god. I was raised on it as a child, along with Zamfir, Neil Diamond, Paul Simon’s ‘Graceland”, and Jesus Christ Superstar… and way too much Christmas music. Not sure what is says about my folks or my state of mind.

I will conclude by mentioning that is you have double-booked yourself this Saturday, I would invite you to an alternate gig:

Querkus in round one of Search for RA NRG
Sunday, February 26th, 8:30 pm at the Pyramid Cabaret.

$5 at the door.

There will likely be a real smorg of bands that night – some metal, pop, punk, roots, who knows… I don’t have a confirmed lineup yet. If you would like to play (just throw a band together, they will take anyone. It doesn’t matter if you can sing or play an instrument... www.pyramid7.com for information). Well, we will be doing our best rock star impressions and trying to advance I guess… we always feel a bit out of place but whatever its fun. It’s early on a Sunday, come have a drink and check us out. If you want to be extra sweet and support us by buying advance tickets, let me know and I will get them to you. Drumming duties will be taken on by the multitalented Planetarium superstar Scott Young.

Thanks for all the support and love,
