Querkus News - September 2002

Hey all --

Summer is at an end.... how else can one begin a September informational newsletter? I had a great time camping with Jaimz out in Spruce Woods, the highlight being canoeing down the Assiniboine and drinking from a spring running from the Devil's Punchbowl (the water is really good before it hits the river...). How was your weekend? How was your summer? I'm nosy, I'd love to know what's going on with you so feel free to write.

Ok, Querkus. The Querkus is working very hard these days. Edgar works about 70 hours a week and I worked 2 jobs equalling about 60 hours a week for the last 2 weeks. Why? Querkus is why. We are getting a new computer system to write our sequences on, along with a fancy sound card, studio monitors, and a sub. When we have these tools we will be able to put all the fantastical knowledge we have gained by taking our class at Precursor Productions to good use in remixing, engineering and mastering all our tracks. The result? Not having to depend on braindead soundtechs to get good sound, and the ability to truely realise the music floating about in our heads without technical hinderance. I can hardly wait. I'll let you know when its all ready to go and you can compare the difference to our previous tracks. If you liked us before you'll be floored by the new stuff, promise.

For shows, first I'll recap August for you.

Aug 19th - Search for RA (a side note to the lovely individual who I dropped tickets off for at Wilmar Windows.... I was able to steal a coat hanger and break back into my car after waiting for the tow truck for 45 minutes. I was quite proud of myself in the end after the initial kicking and swearing. I'll drop tickets off for you anytime, sweetie, just ask). Sorry the show sucked ass. Curtis was doing sound. If you know Curtis you don't need an explanation. We did what we could with a bad situation but we couldn't make it to the next round. Oh well. We'll still apply for Canadian Music Week when it comes up.

Aug 22nd - The Albert. I forgot how much I LOVE the Albert. Lee did sound (Lee rules). We had a great time. Late Morning Child was pretty cool -- kind of like stripped down Mazzy Star but a bit more goth.

SEPTEMBER SHOWS

First up is my best friend (one of) Sharon's Wedding Social! She's the talented lady who wrote the lyrics to October 16. Now don't get me wrong, I don't really like wedding socials as a rule, but this one will be really cool (and not just because Querkus is playing). It's called the "Superstitious Soiree" and it is Friday Sept 13th. There will be ladders to walk under, black cats and possibly an s & m cage! If you want to go I need to sell you tickets ahead of time ($10 each) so email me and I'll meet will you and sell them to you (in a dark ally, just like drugs!!or wherever we can arrange it for). Come hang out with us, it will be fun.

next up -- University of Winnipeg Indie Band Festival! Admittion is free (I think) and music will get underway around noon. Querkus is tenatively scheduled for 4 pm but I will get back to you on that.

that's it for now, except I must share my carefully assembled October Tour dates thus far. They are my precious little easter eggs. Here they are:

Oct 10th - The Apollo, Thunder Bay
Oct 13th - Aspect @ Holy Joes, Toronto
Oct 16th - 360, Toronto
Oct 20th - Petit Campus, Montreal
Oct 22nd - Kashmir, Quebec City

Still a lot of holes to fill, but its a good start.

thanks for reading!!
